The three of us completed a hike around the Jubilee tower and arrived here quite tired. Initially, we were told there was no seating, but there was an empty table booked for later in the afternoon.
The waitresses conferred with each other, and allowed us to take that table. We had chicken and fish burgers. The food was delicious.
Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible.

Called in for breakfast after a walk. Food was very good, freshly cooked, and value for money. The staff were extremely busy, however friendly and efficient.
We will go back and recommend breakfast here.

We go walking around here a lot, but this is the first time we've eaten here. It's quite literally across the road from one of the entrances to Tockholes & Roddlesworth Woods and one of the start/finish points for walking up to Darwen (Jubilee) Tower. Dogs *ARE* allowed inside which is good as its such a popular dog walking area. Parking is plentiful for the pub and separate parking adjacent for walkers. Inside the pub is clean, cozy and the staff are lovely and helpful. Our food came quickly and was lovely! A very pleasant surprise that the chips were 'real' parboiled, fried chips and not frozen chips π
Partner had Gammon, which came with chips, peas and fried egg, I had scampi which came with chips, peas and a lovely tartar sauce. Portion sizes were good (but not over the top), we also had 1 tea & 1 latte and the bill was just over Β£30 which I thought was good value.

Had the two courses the garlic mushrooms had very generous portion sizes however the nachos were bland and after being asked if we wanted a minute between courses they just brought it straight out. Itβs a shame because breakfasts are amazing and normally very nice. Family enjoyed the roast dinner for their mains

Excellent cup of coffee and very tasty cakes. It was great to see a range of cakes so different to the homogeneous ranges at all the major coffee shops. And very friendly service to boot!

Absolutely brilliant cafe cross gastro pub out, isolated out in the heart of the jaw dropping, unbelievably scenic west Pennines. Brilliant menu. Reasonable prices. Very cosy, also modern. Good service, extremely popular. Loads of walkers and nature/wildlife photography everywhere. Highly recommend.

Great pub, warm welcome from all the staff and excellent, homemade food. 4 of us had the coffee and Guinness braised brisket burger, buttermilk chicken burger, veggie burger and a steak baguette with sweet potato fries. All burgers packed with flavour and really delicious. π Generous portions of chips, which is always a bonus. The steak baguette was filled with garlic alioli and gherkins, and the sweet potato fries are yummy. π Dessert was apple and cinnamon crumble with creamy custard. A big, warm hug of a dessert. π€ The Bailey's cheesecake actually tasted of it and was both generous and creamy. Oh, and you must finish with a coffee as the homemade cinnamon shortbread that comes with it are divine. They should be sold in bags. π π A really lovely afternoon and will definitely be back soon. β€οΈ π π π π

Some good food and beer yesterday at the Royal followed by some nice walking.
Excellent sirloin steak off the specials board (well cooked and a good peice of meat) - my son had the pulled brisket burger which was so large he could not finish it. The beer is certainly well looked after and was delicious - it is a free house so had some interesting beers on offer.
My first visit and there are two parts to the establishment plus a large outdoor seating area - the old pub which is quite dark but full of old world charm and the new extension which is light and airy. Because the weather was lovely we chose outside where we had excellent table service with plenty of staff to look after you.
We will return!

Called in here for breakfast before walking up to jubilee Tower.
The service was excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent, along with a very reasonable price. Will definitely be going back for more.
Forgot to mention the Great outdoor seating area if you're out with the dog π
